During the year 1842, Inventor Jerome Increase Case founded Case within Racine. He started making threshing machinery. The business later gained international recognition as the first builder of steam engines for its agricultural application. Eventually, the business grew to become the world's largest maker of steam engines.

Case had established themselves in the construction machine industry by 1912. They became a manufacturer of road building equipment including steam rollers and road graders. Case grew their construction machinery company through different acquisitions, starting with the American Tractor Corporation during 1957. Case had expanded their company by the middle part of the 1990s to become the top producer of medium-sized to light-sized construction equipment.

Case merged with the corporation New Holland during the year 1999 and together they became CNH Global. This corporation became responsible for marketing some of the world's leading brands of agricultural and construction machinery.
