Counterbalance Forklift Training Courses
Anyone who operates a counterbalanced lift truck must have training, based on Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations. Training consists of a combination of classroom training and hands-on driver training. Refresher training is needed occasionally so as to keep operator skills up to date. OSHA does not indicate a minimum time requirement for either the classroom or hands-on training.

Counterbalanced Forklifts
The counterbalance forklift is able to balance its load thanks to a counterbalance built into the truck. Forks could move up and down parallel to the truck's body. The forks do not pivot. Operators who use counterbalanced forklifts should receive training about the specific lift trucks they would be using and in the same workplace setting.

Classroom Training
The forklift operator would be taught the basics of the model of forklift they would be utilizing in classroom training. They will learn info regarding the lift trucks specific things such as load, height and weight capacity. The operator would learn the basics of fueling or charging the forklift, that depends on whether the engine is gas-powered or battery-powered. Safety procedures regarding the particular truck, like for example how to safely walk around the forklift, would be included.

Supervised Driving
Supervised driver training would make certain that the lift truck operator knows how to use the counterbalanced lift truck. This practical training will take place in the same kind of environment wherein the driver would be working. The operator will train with the same sorts of surrounding buildings and other structures on the same type of terrain, as well as similar pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Refresher Training Courses
Counterbalance lift truck operators are required by OSHA to take a regular refresher training course. Nevertheless, there are no specifications as to the frequency at which a driver requires this training. Then again, for regular drivers, refresher training must comprise classroom-style training.
