Santa Clarita

Santa Clarita city is the fourth largest city within Los Angeles County and the 26th biggest in California, with an approximate population of 180,000. In the United States, Santa Clarita was recently named the the sixth safest place to reside. This ranking was given by the FBI for cities over 100,000 residents. In the year 2006, Money Magazine ranked the city of Santa Clarita 18th in the top 100 places to live. The city was incorporated in 1987 and combined the communities of Valencia, Canyon County, Newhall and Saugus. Downtown Los Angeles is approximately thirty five kms southeast of Santa Clarita. When seen on a map Santa Clarita forms a distinctive triangle shape because of the intersection of the Golden State (I-5) and Antelope Valley (SR-14).

The Enterprise Zone is comprised of the industrial and commercial areas within the western and northern parts of the city. It was zoned on July 1, the year 2007 to offer tax incentives to businesses who built there. Now, 97 percent of all commercial, business, and industrial zoned land is located in the Enterprise Zone. Several big businesses have chosen Santa Clarita as their base, like for instance Condomman.com, Salt Creek Grille, True Position technologies and Trigg Laboratories.

The service sector is the biggest sector of the Santa Clara economy, with around 41 percent of all companies of the city performing services. Retail holds around 21 percent of the financial system, and the rest is split equally amongst the insurance, finance, real estate, and construction trades.

Santa Clarita is a city that is generally comprised of smaller businesses because just 5% of the companies have more than 50 staff. Around 59% of businesses in the city have less then 5 workers. Businesses that hire between 5 and 9 employees count for roughly 19%.

Businesses within Santa Clarita do not take up a lot of space due to their small roster of staff. About 36 percent of companies take up less then 2,500 square feet and 46 percent of companies are within locations between 2,500 and 9,999 square feet.
