The prospering city of Garden Grove was founded in the year 1874 by Dr, Alonzo Cook. It was incorporated on the 18th of June, the year 1956 and celebrated its 50th birthday in 2006. The city has a total area of 17.8 square miles and presently has a population of 172,000. Garden Grove has a very convenient location south of Los Angeles in Orange County. Several attractions are found close by, like for example Knotts Berry Farm (7 miles), Disneyland (1 mile), beaches (around 9 miles) and the John Wayne Airport (10 miles).

It is home to the highest number of churches and various places of worship within California. The world famous Crystal Cathedral is located in Garden Grove. It likewise presents the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival, which is the largest community-based Memorial Day event within the United States.
