Costa Mesa city is situated in Orange County. This multicultural city hosts nearly 114,000 residents within its sixteen square miles. On the cities southern boarder, approximately a mile away is the Pacific Ocean. Costa Mesa was incorporated in 1953 with a population of roughly 16,840. Initially, the cities economy was dependent on semi rural farming but as the city has grown, it has come to depend more and more on retail commercial companies and action sports industries, like surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. Los Angeles is located roughly thirty seven miles northwest from the city. San Diego is 88 miles south and San Francisco is 475 miles north. Other cities that are near are Newport Beach, Irvine, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, and Santa Ana.
The city has various well maintained amenities, consisting of three libraries, two golf courses, and over twenty five parks. It is also home to 20 public schools and the post secondary institutions Whittier Law School, Orange Coast College, Nation University and Vanguard University.
There are several arts buildings that cater to the artists of the area. These buildings comprise the Orange County Performing Arts Center, Renee and Henry Segerstorm Concert Hall and Theater and the South Coast Repertory Theater. The biggest shopping mall within the city, the South Coast Plaza, is home to over 320 stores. It produces amongst the highest volume of sales out of regional shopping malls within the state of California.
The city's administrative functions happen within the five story high Costa Mesa Civic Center, which covers 9.5 acres. Moreover, the Council Chambers, Communications, Police Department, and Fire State No. 5 can be found here. The Center can be found at 77 Fair Drive.
It is so convenient to get to the city, with the state highways 55 and 73 running through it and the Interstate 405.
There are several activities to do round the city, with several high/low deserts, beaches and mountain ranges nearby Costa Mesa. Individuals who are interested in a more urban experience can visit Knott's Berry Farm, Palm Springs and Disneyland, and Los Angeles (which is home to several sports arenas and major league teams).
